Stock in new mining ventures is usually really cheap - there is no shortage of folks willing to gamble at 10 or 20 cents per share in the hope of hitting a home run - I don't think shorting is required to make this system work. Of course, I started this discusion with the request for input from those with more knowledge on the subject than me, so it could be that I am wrong on this issue. It just seems to me that it is logical that shorting is evil and causes plenty of unneeded grief.

No disrespect intended for your opinion Vinny, just debate.
