I think the environment is important and mining companies in CANADA are probably the most environmentally conscious businesses that operate in Canada. I work at a remote mine and see first hand the amount of time and money is spent on ensuring that what we do does not harm the environment.

Every drop of oil (hydrolic/engine oil) used in trucks/equipment is accounted for. If even half a litre is missing, it is assumed that thier was a leak somewhere and a large investigation is initiated.

When I am filling the gas tank on my work truck, I must put a tray under the nozzle to catch every last drip that may come from the nozzle (what gas station does this? Thats right, they dont).

Helicopters are used to track populations of wildlife in the area. If we were not working in the area, no one would be tracking these populations.

Every stream, nook and cranny is sampled for miles and miles and miles away from the mine to ensure that thier is NO impact on the environment from our operations.

Berms are placed around every pool of water to ensure airborne dust does not get into the water resulting in grit waring off the coating of aquatic life.

These measures are the tip of iceberg and are steps taken to ensure that the environmental impact of our operation is no greater than it has to be.

Name one business that isnt mining that does this on a day to day business.
