Not only that, SAGD is far more energy intensive than open pit mining with higher carbon output. Its also only economically feasable due to low natural gas prices. When natural gas prices rise, goodbye SAGD.

While I agree than open pit mining appears more environmentally damaging, its actually the opposite when compared to SAGD.
