I don’t know what to think about it. On the one hand, it smells a lot like POET’s OI, on the other hand, typical catchwords are missing.

For example, what Broadcom has developed, is not an optical engine, but instead a switching solution bringing photonics directly to the ASIC. As we know, this is something POET has on its agenda, but it is none of the low-hanging fruits to be reaped right now. Could still be something POET is doing under the hood. I am giving it a 20 % probability.

Further, Alexis Björlin doesn’t mention the word “athermal”, but instead they have “developed a thermal management system that can handle the optics and the ASIC in a single package operating under a single heatsink”. Could still be the same with a different wording, because solutions based on the optical interposer still develop heat, though less, that must be managed and led to a heatsink.

Well, we’ll see.
