Thomas Laue is a partner in the Udall Law Firm in Tucson.  The Udall Law Firm and Thomas Laue are defendants in the second court case ValuePro mentioned (C20194559); Karin Laue (related to Thomas?) is also a defendant.

This is pure speculation - only SPECULATION - I would speculate that Jim hired Udall as his defense attorneys, Udall gave the case to Mr. Laue, Mr. Laue advised him not to give in to Liberty Star's lawsuit demands, so Gross decided to sue Udall and Laue also.  I won't even speculate why Karin Laue is involved, not knowing who she is.  But everything else in this paragraph is just speculation.
