It would be nice if the government even cared. But if they did, there would already be enforcement of the current rules and new rules created for the recent loopholes. You mention Madoff but the SEC went to outrageous and blatant lengths to look the other way even with years of complaints detailing the exact nature of the problem and how to nail him. It wasn't until the moron admitted the fraud to his own sons because of massive redemptions in the fund that anything happened.

As far as Goldman Sachs, they have an absolute license to steal and complete immunity since there are so money alumni in the government. And they have the hubris to call it a culture of public service...righhhhhhhhtttttttttt. Good old Hank Paulsen certainly served the public well while treasury secretary!!! And what a huge surprise...record results at Goldman last quarter and massive bonuses for all.
