The rail line was a BC Rail project built in the 70's. It got put on hold because of cost, then never restarted. Fortune Metals announced they were intersted in working with CN Rail to have a line built to their Klappan project using the old bed. That was three years ago, That line would join the main line to Rupert.
There will probably be a rail line some day. Not sure when but I would bet not too far off. Alaska has been pushing for a rail link from their state to the continental US for a while. The plan for that line is to go through northwest BC with a spur line to Rupert.
All in the future but a mine at Schaft Creek could be producing for decades.
The old line would be expensive to upgrade but it is not that they are starting from scratch and the right of way issues would be diminished.
