Our agm is always in late May...moved to late August? Several months down the road.

Why! They knew we were doing virtual meeting all along so the meeting could have been kept for May still. I don't buy the corona virus was to blame for a delayed agm when it's a virtual meeting anyways rather face to face.

IMO only one reason....to vote on sale/buyout?

It was to allow for the updated economics to be completed and have that window to complete a deal/transaction to vote on it. Simple. We now have our window for an exit.
