I received this note from one of my graduate students today.. That might be of interest.I have not made him aware of Poet Technologies....

I think this is an interesting IoT story.  A few years ago Apple moved into designing their mobile CPU architecture, and it was a massively disruptive technology.  It has been an enormous differentiating factor in the competitive advantage of the iPhone.  Now that Apple has indicated they are moving toward developing their graphic technologies this could disrupt the current graphics chip makers beyond the direct Apple suppliers.  People are touting GPUs as being an important technology that will be at the center of emerging technologies like VR and self-driving cars.  It has also been a crutch that is being used heavily as CPU speeds bump up against the limits of Moore's Law.  Apple has an annual R&D budget over 10 billion dollars and in all actuality is infinite if needed.  A company like Nvidia has an R&D budget closer to 1.5 billion dollars.  If Apple can innovate quicker, they can do what they did in the mobile CPU space and create a hedge around their existing products like the iPhone and also position themselves for future technologies.

Just some food for thought but let me know if you think that this could be disruptive to future technologies and if it is a strategy that will give Apple a competitive advantage.
