Exactly, Fairchy! The AOC (outhouse) is just a proof of concept for POET's monolithical photonic integration, however, a marketable one. Once the AOC is on the market and has proved to be viable, potential customers will want to apply POET's monolithical photonic integration to their own products. These are the skyscrape constructors that want to benefit from the POET bricks. To do so, they will need POET's support, professional service, and licensing. That's where NRE revenue will come from.

However, it won't be sufficient for potential customers to see only VCSEL transceiver wafers and test results, they will want to see actually working products, i.e. AOCs with those VCSEL transceivers inside running in a real-world application over a certain period of time. And even then they won't switch over their mission-critical products to the POET technology immediately, but instead run their own proof-of-concept projects first. That will be low-risk project that won't hamper a company's overall success if they fail. That is, the skyscraper constructor would build a few one- or two-story houses using the new bricks first before applying them on a larger scale.

At the same time, POET will further improve their technology, i.e. create even better bricks, diffentiated brick variants and products utilising them, like e.g. family homes.
