Well guidelines and regulations exists everywhere (should be stricter in NY I guess as those incompetent companies drilling seem to ruined it for a lot of ppl). I mean Mr. Charest says they will be strict to protect the people and environment which is good, I'm all for that. I remember Mr. Manzoni Talisman CEO said that they are drilling all their wells to the highest code of standards anyway, so they'll be up to par with any new regulations to come.
Frankly I'm not sure of what ways it can really impact it in a negative way. The idea is to produce this resource, not make the lives of these companies a complete hell that it turns them away. Whatever strict regulations come forth, I'm sure these companies can handle it no problem. ie. water disposal, treatment, sending regulators to sites etc These exist in other jurisdictions and it makes sense the BAPE takes the best of everywhere and makes it their own.
The government smashed the idea of a moratorium in parliment, they are dedicated to go forth. That is why they allowed the BAPE conferences, a chance for this to move forward. Having the BAPE, as Anela from QEC said, is a huge sign the industry is moving forward. The government has told them to establish guidelines and a way to make this industry forward, not to decide if it can and should. Every single shale producing state, except NY is still moving forward in this battle which means things are being done right. If there are a few mishaps, that is all on the drilling companies.
I read some comments on Michael's Blog and was about a man who works for the industry and did some work in Quebec for QEC. He said when he was out there, even the short amount of time that it was, the people in Quebec at his location were so thankful for their business and helping them out in that way. We are already seeing what this does for businesses etc.
That taxi driver blog was huge, because how much of this population really has no idea what is going on?
