I have been an investor in the past in Ampex which was known for being on the leading edge of digital video compression and digital video in general. They even went so far as to put together a closed loop end-to-end video multicasting network on the island of Malta through an entity they purchased called TV on the Web. They have a number of patents in this space and are now unfortunately - bankrupt. Like I said...it's great having leading edge tech but the bankruptcy courts are littered with the remains of companies like these.
